Air is one of the most important human needs. Although a person can stay hungry and thirsty for days, he cannot stay longer than a few minutes without breathing. It has been determined by researches that an adult human needs about 15 kg of air per day to survive. The air, which is so important for people, should be healthy and clean.

People spend 70-98% of their daily lives indoors. It has been determined that many indoor environments are sometimes more polluted and dangerous than the outdoor environment. This situation becomes more evident in the winter months.

Toxic chemicals, which may consist of some components or activities in the home, can cause discomfort such as headache, cough, burning in the eyes, and dizziness, in addition to many types of cancer. in houses; Intoxication and death incidents caused by local combustion systems such as gas stoves, coal stoves and water heaters are frequently encountered.

Air pollution problem also means odor problem for many gas pollutants. There are also substances with a high odor threshold (61.2 mg/m3) such as formaldehyde in the indoor environment.

The noise level in indoor spaces is also one of the factors that impair environmental health. Noise infiltrating indoor environments in the form of air, object and water noise can cause physiological and psychological disturbances in humans. In the indoor environments in the houses, arrangements should be made so that the noise level does not exceed 35 dB.

Pollutants that impair indoor air quality in homes; heaters, building materials, cigarettes and similar substances, household goods, air conditioners. It is necessary to improve the indoor air quality, which directly affects people's health and working efficiency, and to eliminate negative environmental effects.

Although most people are aware of the health hazards of outdoor air pollution, they do not know that indoor air quality (IHC) problems have significant effects on human health. Studies of the American Environmental Protection Organization (EPA) have shown that the level of pollutants in the indoor environment can be approximately 5-100 higher than that of the outside air. While the effects of outdoor air pollution have been known since the beginning of the 20th century, indoor air quality came to the fore only 30 years ago.

Indoor air quality is very important for many reasons, especially in schools. Children are more sensitive to irritating air pollutants than adults. When high levels of agents are present in the indoor air, the risk of asthma is increased among children, as they trigger asthma attacks. It causes distraction in students and teachers exposed to indoor air pollutants, and all learning and teaching processes are damaged.

In our country, in crowded classrooms with low ceilings and no mechanical ventilation, indoor air quality problems are experienced intensely on cold winter days when the window cannot be opened due to the cold. In this season, students' absenteeism increases due to illnesses, causing permanent disorders such as asthma and bronchitis.
